Quality

Dedication and attention to genetic quality has paid dividends as Trossachs Highlands has established itself and is recognised by industry professionals as New Zealand's Premier Highland Fold.

Quality is a factor that Trossachs Highlands has honed to perfection by dedicated attention to the implementation of a genetically based breeding programme.

This genetic platform is underpinned by an aggressive culling programme, where animals that do not measure up to the Highland standard characteristics, or lack superior conformation are culled from the Fold.

The result of these quality control programmes can be seen by the following:

• Laird of Trossachs (a two-year-old bull) winner of the "Meat and Wool Cup"2003.

• The first time in the history of the Highland Breed in New Zealand that a Highland animal had ever been awarded such prestigious acclaim by cattle professionals.

• Kate Morgan of Trossachs: the only Highland female to have ever won the Meat & Wool Cup in open competition and, as an aged animal, still produces outstanding calves each year.

• At an open New Zealand-wide auction, a ten-month old bull calf sold for a New Zealand record high price – a record that still stands.

• A four-month old bull calf – Payday of Trossachs – was awarded Meat & Wool Cup Reserve Champion.

As overall proof of quality, Trossachs Highlands have waiting lists for certain genetics and bloodlines.  Repeat buyers make up over 50% of all annual sales.
